TLDR

Lenny's Newsletter's 2026 tech worker survey finds the workforce bifurcating into those energized by AI (49%) and those destabilized by it (19%), with overall burnout jumping 11 points year-over-year.

Per Lenny's Newsletter, a new survey of tech workers reveals a stark divide in how professionals respond to AI tools in their roles. Nearly half feel 'amplified' by AI capabilities, while roughly one-fifth feel 'destabilized,' and this split predicts career satisfaction more strongly than seniority, company size, or job title. The research also flags a troubling trend: overall burnout climbed from 44.7% to 55.7%, career optimism fell to 48.7%, and more than half of respondents wouldn't recommend their own field to newcomers—even those optimistic about their own futures.
