Optimixed's original report on this story.
Google introduced four experimental advertising metrics to its Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX): Ad Count, Ad Density, Ad Weight – Network, and Ad Weight – CPU. The metrics measure the average number of ads visible per viewport, percentage of viewport occupied by ads, data consumed by advertising, and processing resources consumed by ads respectively. Chrome identifies ads through network-level filtering and script analysis, sampling the visible viewport once per second and reporting results at the 75th percentile. Display & Video 360 is supporting the initiative, with industry backers including WPP, The Guardian, and Mediavine saying the data could help distinguish quality inventory from ad-heavy pages, though the metrics remain experimental and lack recommended thresholds or confirmed influence on bidding and valuation systems.
